This is a wonderful article by Medical Intuitive, Christopher Stewart.  For more information on medical intuition, or to schedule a health assessment session with him, visit his website: MedicalIntuitiveHealing.com . I have worked with flower essences for over 20 years and they are a wonderful, all natural tool for healing the emotional body and assisting with high sensitivity.

Empowerment for Highly Sensitive People

Article by Christopher Stewart

In her series of books the author Elaine Aron details the experiences and challenges of the approximately 15-20% of the population who are highly sensitive persons or HSP’s. We have all seen portraits of these people in films and books. They are usually portrayed as shrinking from the world, being weak, or overly shy and retiring.

According to Aron and others the trait of being an HSP is normal. Your nervous system is just more sensitive to subtleties. Your brain processes this information more quickly and reflects upon it at a deeper level.

As an HSP, you may be overstimulated easier than other people. You may feel more stressed out, overwhelmed and have problems with crowded public areas and social events.

In an increasingly more complex and interdependent world the abilities of an HSP are needed more and more.

The more we are in touch with ourselves, the more we feel our inner desire to know and be who we truly are. We want freedom to live as we are supposed to live, to fulfill our soul’s potential. When we don’t we suffer, however that suffering is a hunger for our true selves to live, to be free; it is a message that we want to return to our true nature.

For an HSP to embrace their essential qualities, to open to all of their abilities requires support, skill building and practice.

To empower and support the emotional body of HSP’s I have used flower essences with great success in my medical intuitive practice.

Flower essences are the vibrational imprint, or etheric pattern of particular flowers or plants prepared in liquid form. You can imagine, as science tells us, that everything – plants, animals, the Earth, stars – is made up at its very basic level of vibrations of energy. Then you can also imagine that every flower species has a particular vibration different in some way than any other. The energy of a dark red rose is different than that of a bright white lily in color, form, scent, texture, and so on. These tangible factors are associated with the flower’s individual vibrational pattern or ‘etheric essence’.

The vibrational pattern of each flower can be ‘imprinted’ in pure water through certain preparation methods – one used most often is the infusing (like making tea) of fresh flowers just picked in glass bowls of spring water sitting in bright sunlight. The water then takes on the etheric vibration of the flower, resulting in what has been termed a ‘flower essence’.

The 2 most used essences for HSP support are Walnut and Yarrow. Flower essences may be found at most health food stores, ordered online from many different vendors.

Walnut Flower Essence is the remedy to help to protect against outside influences in general, and against the effects of change in particular.

Walnut types are people who are fulfilling their purpose in life but who under the influence of the opinions, theories or beliefs of others or of external circumstances in general, may be led to doubt their path.

Yarrow Flower Essence – As the soul becomes more spiritually open, it necessarily becomes more refined, sensitive, and absorbent. In the past many of those on spiritual paths were removed and protected from the daily conditions of living, so that the soul could safely harmonize and expand its boundaries. Modern conditions require that the path of spiritualization be connected to the physical world and to practical responsibilities.

Using flower essences is easy. Just make a mixture of the essences into a gallon of spring water, and drink often during the day. You don’t have to drink the whole gallon in one day. When the gallon of water has been used, just make another mixture.

The subtle healing properties of flower essences restore equilibrium on all levels of being: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. They can enhance personal development and are a powerful aid to transformation. They offer us the opportunity to address outworn behavior patterns and negative states of mind which may contribute to or cause disease, emotional imbalance and spiritual disharmony. By stimulating the body’s inherent ability to heal itself, flower essences restore order from a higher level and help to strengthen desirable or positive qualities such as courage, inner peace, love or acceptance.

My 3 words for 2010

Thanks to a Twitter post, I came across this great article to assist me with my intentions for ‘framing’ my year ahead.  According to the author Chris Brogan, “… the object is to come up with three words that you use as compass points for your efforts over the year to come. They’re not resolutions.”

The difference between these three words and resolutions?  These words are more like guide post, lighting your general direction.  They are active and fluid intentions versus static resolutions that may die out in a matter of a few weeks.

I’m thinking about my three words.  I think they will be written at the top of my white board.  They will be visible and something I can see everyday.  That should help me follow my intentional words with the energy and actions.

What are my three words?  Act, Organize, Move

What are your three words?

10 Easy Activities to Reduce Stress

Stress happens to all of us.  It sneaks up when we least expect it, disguising itself as tense muscles, headaches, agitation and quick temperedness.  The good news however, is that there are 10 easy activities that you can do that will reduce your stress.  Make a mental note of these, or even list them on post-it notes to hang up in conspicuous places as reminders.

  1. Stop. Whatever activity you are engaged in, stop and quiet your mind.
  2. Breathe. Focus your attention on your breath, slowing it to a regular pattern.
  3. Allow. Allow your muscles a moment to relax as you focus on your breath.  As you inhale, consciously breathe into the stress in the muscles and relaxing them as you exhale. Take deep breaths and release.
  4. Listen. Quiet your mind by listening to your breath as you inhale and exhale.  Listen to your body telling you that stress is taking place.
  5. Rest. Give yourself permission to rest your body and your mind.  Many times our stress is from mental fatigue, not just physical tiredness.  Take a 10 minute power nap if you have the opportunity, or simply close your eyes and repeat the phrase over and over in your mind, “I am quiet, peaceful and relaxed.  It is safe for me to rest now.”
  6. Exercise.  Go for a walk, a jog or a swim.  Exercising releases endorphins in your brain which will preoccupy your mind.  This is a wonderful way to physically release built up tensions that have been held in your physical body.
  7. Be present in the now moment. When you recycle the same thoughts, keep a mental ‘to do’ list, or worry about something that is already over, then your mind is elsewhere.  You are not fully present in the moment, and neither is your mind.  Being focused elsewhere or living in the past and ruminating can be extremely tiring and stressful.  Consistently recall yourself back to the present moment.
  8. Call a friend.  Talking can be a great stress reliever.  The simple action of being heard by someone who cares about you can make everything feel better.  You’ve released the tension and you’ve been heard.  You’ll find that your body automatically begins to relax and release the tensions.  You may yawn often during the conversation.  Yawning is a form of releasing physical tension as well as the body’s way of taking in more oxygen to nourish the tense muscles.
  9. Have a massage.  Physical touch releases tensions and stress from the physical body as well as relaxing your thoughts and emotions.  You may want to schedule ongoing massage therapy sessions as part of your regular routine.  People that receive massage on a regular basis experience less stress because they aren’t storing the tensions for long periods of time without relief.
  10. Seek counseling. Asking for assistance, either through traditional or intuitive/spiritual counseling is not a signal of weakness.  In fact it’s the opposite.  It is a show of strength from within to ask for help.  It reflects your willingness to deal with your stress and manage your life in a new, healthy way.  A counselor can help you maintain a healthy balance during times of stress, extreme tension, difficulty or transition.

Above all, remember that you are doing your best to reduce the stress in your life.  You have the inherent right to be happy, healthy and thriving.  Stress does not need to be an assumed part of your lifestyle.  You can choose to ignore stress and live with it, or to take action and do something about it.  It’s up to you.  Give yourself the gift of relaxation.  You deserve it!

Universe Thrown You Any Curve Balls Lately?

Ever had one of those days when you started out really good and then suddenly it felt like the Universe threw you a curve ball coated in disappointment?

We’ve all had them. Some disappointments are small, others are large, but they still have the same yucky feeling that gets triggered inside. You thought it was going to be one way, then it changed. And sometimes- change stinks!

I think disappointment makes us feel like little kids again.

Remember when you didn’t receive something from Santa that you really wanted? Or when someone didn’t do what they said they were going to do? It can certainly feel devastating at the time.

How do you handle your little kid inside feeling disappointed?

You stop, sit down, and remember that you’re OK. You are an adult and you know that change happens, sometimes unexpectedly, but you can handle it. Life is a river that keeps flowing regardless of the obstacles in its path. Even if it seems the path that you were counting on has suddenly become blocked, the river will find another outlet. Be open to receive it in another form.

Remember the old saying, “When one door closes, another will appear?”

Don’t stay trapped in the disappointment. You stopped, acknowledged it, gave it space and now it’s time to get moving. Pick yourself up and keep flowing. Open the next door when it is presented. Be open to receive, and trust that you will always be provided for.
